FREE AGENT WISH LIST IN 2018 – MATT HOLLIDAY (DESIGNATED HITTER)

If we’re being entirely honest, the Royals offense probably isn’t going to be very good this year. Alex Gordon could be the three-hitter and he barely batted above the Mendoza line a season ago. That’s why a player like Matt Holliday could really do wonders for the Royals.

Holliday is 38 years old, so the Royals could give him a one-year deal and slot him in as a designated hitter throughout the season. He’s also played in the outfield, which bodes well for a team that is going to have some changes out there.

Last season Holliday slashed .231/.316/.432 with 19 home runs and 64 RBI in 373 at bats for the Yankees. He’s definitely past his prime, but the Royals aren’t exactly going anywhere this season, so why not bring in a veteran bat?

There’s been little discussion on Matt Holliday in free agency, but I think he’d be a good seasoned veteran to bring in and help encourage some of the younger guys. He won’t knock anyone’s socks off, but he’d be cheap. That’s about all the Royals can really wish for right now.
