LOS ANGELES CHARGERS

The Chargers have had Philip Rivers as their starting signal caller since the 2006 season, but he has been there since 2004. Rivers continues to be one of the best passers in the league and was insanely good in 2017 with 4,515 yards, 28 touchdowns, and ten picks.

Interceptions used to plague Rivers’ career, but not last year! Six of his ten picks were at the hands (literally) of the Chiefs, so you’re welcome there, Philip.

The most impressive part about Rivers is that the guy is never injured. He’s yet to miss a start since taking over as the starter in 2006 and that’s hard to find in today’s NFL. The dude even played through a torn ACL in the 2007 AFC Championship Game!

As long as Philip Rivers is in Los Angeles, the Chargers have a good situation at quarterback.

Something to keep in mind with Rivers, however, is that he’s 36 years old and the Bolts are surely thinking about life after him. He’s signed through the 2019 season, which gives him two more years there, so if the Chargers are looking to draft a quarterback early, they might choose to do so this year.

Los Angeles had Kellen Clemens as the predominant backup to Rivers last year and also traded for Cardale Jones before the season began. Clemens appeared in eight games, but only to close things out in blowouts. It’s doubtful either of these guys are the future of the Chargers at quarterback.

As long as Philip Rivers is in Los Angeles, the Chargers have a good situation at quarterback. They will definitely be looking to the future soon though, as Rivers will be 37 at the end of the 2018 season and he can’t play forever… at least Chiefs fans hope not.
