Royals rumors are rolling now and the Kansas City Royals have made yet another move. They traded Brandon Moss and Ryan Buchter to Oakland in exchange for Jesse Hahn and Heath Fillmyer.

Wow, another trade for the Kansas City Royals! After a slow beginning to the offseason, the Royals have been making moves recently.

The latest is that they’ve traded designated hitter Brandon Moss and reliever Ryan Buchter to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for pitchers Jesse Hahn and Heath Fillmyer. .

This is yet another move that will clear up cap space for the organization. Perhaps this is a sign that the Royals are continuing to make a push to sign Eric Hosmer, which would make sense considering Moss was one of the few options remaining to play first base.

Trading Moss now opens up a serious question as to who will start at first base should Hosmer not be retained. Could Hunter Dozier get a chance there or would the Royals consider bringing someone like Logan Morrison to town?

As for Buchter, that move is a bit surprising. He was one of the better relievers a season ago, but the Royals are proving that they’re willing to trade just about anyone this winter. Buchter didn’t spend much time in Kansas City, having been a part of the deal with the Padres last trade deadline.

Now, who are the Royals getting in return? Jesse Hahn and Heath Fillmyer will be heading to Kansas City and while neither are names to get all that excited about, they’ll fill a purpose for this team.

More from Royals Rumors

Hahn could compete for a spot in the rotation or be an arm out of the bullpen. He threw 69.2 innings a season ago in just 14 games (13 starts) and had an ERA of 5.30 with a record of 3-6.

Fillmyer is a promising young minor league prospect who could help the Royals in a few years. He had a 3.49 ERA with an 11-5 record in AA last season. Fillmyer started 29 games in Oakland’s farm system in 2017 and is just the kind of prospect the Royals could really use for their rebuild.

It’s nice to see the Kansas City Royals making some moves recently, as they re-signed Alcides Escobar last week and now have traded away two players in exchange for two pitchers. Moss was disappointing in his lone year as a Royal, batting just .207. He had one year left on his deal.

Buchter had a promising 2017 season and had the potential to be one of the best relievers in the Royals bullpen this season. He was controllable too, which is likely what made him an enticing trade piece.

Does this trade mean the Royals have more dough to sign Eric Hosmer now? We’ll see what happens next in the Royals rumors department. What do you think of this trade?
