The Kansas City Royals are underway with their annual FanFest with the event taking place on Friday and Saturday. It’s definitely something Royals fans should check out.

The Kansas City Royals, much like other MLB teams, are hosting their FanFest this Friday and Saturday and this was actually my first year attending the event. A friend and I had discussed going and when we saw that tickets were just $9 for Friday, we were sold.

I’m not a big autograph person, which is why I was okay with getting there later in the evening. My thoughts going into it was as long as I got to see one event on the main stage and hit up the team store (everything was at least 30% off), I’d be content.

My friend and I got there just in time for the first ever Royals fashion show and it was pretty entertaining. It was divided into three segments with kids of the players/staff members, K crew members, and the Royals players themselves. Everything modeled on the runway were items sold in the team store.

The fashion show was cool, but it did go a bit long. The Royals players seemed to have fun with it though and you should have heard the roars for Salvador Perez when he came out. Some other notes from the fashion show:

Give props to the Royals with the fashion show. They knew it’d be a little tougher to draw fans this year due to the lack of the big names, so they came up with a clever new idea to show off the players and their goofy sides.

FanFest had games set up all around the venue, but I sadly did not get a chance to play any of them. I would have loved to take some swings in the batting cage, but it was mostly kids in line and I didn’t want to be the one adult in line (though I was barely taller than a lot of those kids).

The Royals also set up both of the World Series trophies and you could get your picture taken with them. The nice part was that the staff actually took the pictures on your cell phone and didn’t force you to just go to a website to access your photo.

If nothing else, go to FanFest for the swag. The team store set up in the Convention Center had tons of discounted apparel and other merchandise (including the stuff that was modeled during the main stage event). I purchased a Royals/Nebraska Cornhuskers hat from “Husker Day at the K” this past season for just two bucks while my friend came away with a hoodless sweatshirt for $45.

If I end up going to FanFest next year, I’d like to try to go earlier in the day on Friday so I could see more of the exhibits and play some of the games before the kiddos show up. For people wanting autographs, definitely go earlier because the sessions were over with by the time my friend and I got there.

Did you go to FanFest this year? What did you think of it? Share your experiences!
