With the 2017 season in the books for the Kansas City Chiefs, it’s time to look ahead towards next season. The road schedule for the Chiefs in 2018 is almost unfair.

The offseason can be kind of slow and that’s what Kansas City Chiefs fans are dealing with at the moment. In the down time that is the offseason, I went ahead and took another glance at next year’s schedule and holy crackers do the Chiefs have a difficult road schedule in 2018!

For starters, let’s recap the teams they’ll face in 2018 as a whole. Obviously they’ll see their AFC West foes six times, like they always do. The Chiefs also won their division so they’ll face any other AFC division winners. It’s their turn to face everyone in the AFC North and the NFC West this year as well.

Now, the road games. The home schedule is significantly better for the Chiefs, so we won’t dive into it. The road schedule, however, will pose some problems for a rebuilding unit.

The Chiefs will travel to the following teams in 2018:

Denver Broncos (AFC West)

Los Angeles Chargers (AFC West)

Oakland Raiders (AFC West)

Cleveland Browns (AFC North)

Pittsburgh Steelers (AFC North)

New England Patriots (AFC East winner)

Los Angeles Rams (NFC West)

Seattle Seahawks (NFC West)

More from Kansas City Chiefs

Woo nelly. It’s nice that the NFL threw the Chiefs a bone and gave them a road game in Cleveland, but would it shock anyone if Alex Smith went there now that John Dorsey is the general manager? That’d obviously be a big storyline the week leading up to that game.

The rest of the road schedule is just cruel. The Chiefs will face Seattle in the second loudest stadium in the league and will also have to visit the surging Rams. There has been some speculation, however, that the Chiefs and Rams game could be played in Mexico City next season. That’d take a home game away from Los Angeles and not from the Chiefs, so that’s a positive.

The Chiefs would also have to travel to Foxboro again and winning there in back to back seasons isn’t the likeliest of scenarios, especially with a quarterback taking snaps for the first full season. Oh, also… THE CHIEFS HAVE TO PLAY THE STEELERS AGAIN, UGH.

Pittsburgh has become a nuisance for Chiefs fans and no matter how good this team is, they can never top the Steelers. Ben Roethlisberger has yet to lose to them when he starts (and finishes) the game.

We all knew the 2018 Kansas City Chiefs would look different and therefore likely regress, but this road schedule is something else. If Patrick Mahomes can lead the Chiefs to the playoffs with this type of schedule, I’ll 100% buy in on him.

Hey, this is what happens when your team wins the division. That team then has to play all of the other top teams from the AFC and that’s what the Chiefs will be dealing with in 2018.
