Kansas City Chiefs: Reviewing the 2017 rookies

Kansas City Chiefs: 2017 Rookie Breakdown
Safety/Cornerback: Leon McQuay III
When the Kansas City Chiefs selected Leon McQuay with their 6th round pick, I was hoping he would be a solid back-up safety for teammate Eric Berry. When Berry went down in week one, in my mind I assumed McQuay would fill the role. However, he did not. McQuay stayed put on the practice squad.
McQuay spent a majority of his rookie season on the practice squad, which made him up for grabs for any team in the NFL. However, he stayed a part of the Chiefs organization, and was called up to the 53-man roster in December.
He did not ever see any playing time whatsoever, except for the meaningless week 17 game against the Denver Broncos. During that game, McQuay had four combined tackles, 3 solo, and one assist. These numbers are not bad at all, coming from a player that spent most of his rookie campaign as a practice-squad member.
McQuay may never translate to a reliable player for the Chiefs, but I fully expect him to make the 53-man roster next year. With Berry on the team as a safety, expect the coaching staff to work him into a cornerback position player.
Mcquay was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 6th round, pick number 25, and could end up being a special teams presence next season.
