5 reasons the Chiefs will be better in 2018

#3 New faces

The team will have quite a bit of turnover over the off-season. The possibility of long-time Chiefs retiring, getting traded or cut is a real one. Alex Smith’s contract will free up some space, but the space that could be freed up by others. Tamba Hali and Dee Ford could be casualties of the cap, although the likelihood of Hali retiring is great.

Ford should be gone as well. His one good season isn’t enough to pay him the money he is supposed to earn. Other players that could be released include Darrell Revis, Daniel Sorenson, and even Ron Parker.

Derrick Johnson leads the field at being able to restructure his contract. He has expressed his desire to keep playing and the Chiefs owe him the offer, although Johnson isn’t starter material any longer.

With the moves of just Smith, Ford, and Hali the Chiefs should be looking at around 25 million in free cap space. More than enough to retain and add.

Albert Wilson is the most likely to sign a contract and stay, especially with a new quarterback throwing him the ball in 2018. Kevin Pierre-Louis and Steven Terrell should see offers as well.

New additions should come at cornerback, linebacker, defensive line, offensive line, and punter. The big name additions via free agency or the draft will likely come at these spots.
