The Kansas City Chiefs have not fared well in the playoffs in recent history. However, that means absolutely nothing this week against the Tennessee Titans.

The NFL playoffs are here, and that means you have no shortage of bloggers, analysts, talking heads, and radio shock jocks telling you about the Kansas City Chiefs playoff woes. It’s a ready made narrative that can be uploaded quickly by even the laziest in the world of sports media. Here is the truth though:

Nothing that happened in the past has any effect on this weekend’s game.

This weekend, Kansas City will be hosting the Tennessee Titans at Arrowhead Stadium. While there are sure to be plenty of naysayers out there, don’t let that bother you. The truth is that the Chiefs are heavily favored this week, and they should be.

Kansas City is looking to win their first home playoff game in over 20 years. I, for one, happen to like their chances of doing that. This is a Chiefs team that is playing a style of football that we haven’t seen in KC in a very long time. They are also playing very well right now, and that is a much more important factor than history.

Coming In With Momentum

Right now there aren’t many teams playing with more momentum than the Kansas City Chiefs. After nearly watching their season fall off the precipice, this team has rebounded nicely. The Chiefs ripped off three straight wins against teams that were in the playoff hunt. That has built a ton of momentum for them.

By beating the Raiders, Chargers, and Dolphins all in a row, Kansas City proved that they could take down potential playoff teams. The Chiefs essentially dealt a death blow to each of those teams’ playoff hopes. That says a lot about what KC can do when they are playing well.

No, I didn’t forget about last week’s game against the Broncos. That game just really doesn’t factor in because it was played almost entirely by the backups. Those players won’t be getting on the field very much this week against the Titans. It was more of a nice feather in the cap, and a good building block for the future.

Just Keep Playing Good Football

What is the best part about the Kansas City Chiefs right now? They are playing some of their best football all year. During that three game stretch I have mentioned, the Chiefs did not allow a single opponent to score more than 15 points. That includes a Chargers team that is fourth in the NFL in total offense.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

During that stretch, Kansas City also didn’t score fewer than 26 points in any game. That is a very good sign for the Chiefs. Right now they have both their offense and defense clicking on all cylinders. That is exactly where a team wants to be when the playoffs are about to get underway. Plenty of reason to be excited.

Meanwhile, the Titans are limping into the postseason, having lost three of their last four contests.  They are also just 3-5 on the road this year. The more you look at the big picture of this game, the more it favors Kansas City. The key to a Chiefs victory is for them to just go out there and keep doing what they’ve been doing.

The Kansas City Chiefs managed to save their season just in time, and are now one of the hottest teams in the NFL. The Chiefs are playing quality football right now and will be a tough team to beat. Fans can forget about the problems of the past with this organization, because they have no bearing on what happens this Sunday.
