Kansas City Chiefs: Coaching Carousel Opportunities

Arizona Cardinals

With Bruce Arians officially stepping down, it would not be surprising to see the Arizona Cardinals target a Kansas City Chiefs assistant to replace him. The Cardinals are likely headed towards a major rebuilding effort, so going in a new direction would make a lot of sense. This will not be the same team we are used to.

The most pressing concern for any incoming head coach will be to replace Carson Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald. Palmer has already retired, and Fitzgerald has to be close. Arizona needs to be planning on how to move forward. There may also be some key defensive changes in the near future.

Matt Nagy: As far as rebuilding and going in a new direction goes, a young coach like Matt Nagy could be ideal. He will come in with his own outlook on how to address things. On top of that, Nagy has experience with a rebuild from his time in KC. Add in what should be a new quarterback, and this makes a lot of sense.

Dave Toub: I would consider Dave Toub the less-likely option here. With so many changes likely coming to Arizona, they will probably want a head coach with either an offensive or defensive background. Toub wouldn’t have much to build on with the Cardinals, so this is not an ideal spot for him.
