The Kansas City Chiefs wrapped up the AFC West division battle. With their second straight division title, their opponents for the 2018 season have been determined.

The Kansas City Chiefs will be heading to the playoffs for the third straight season. The AFC divisions have all been clinched, which means that Chiefs fans now have a clear idea of who is on their team’s schedule next season.

Obviously Kansas City will play their AFC West opponents a total of six times and they’ll also face the AFC North, NFC West, and the first place teams from the AFC East and AFC South. With the divisions being decided, the Chiefs now know who those two teams will be.

Unfortunately, the Chiefs will have to face the Steelers for the fifth straight year. Kansas City has only beaten Pittsburgh in one of those meetings and that was in 2015 when Ben Roethlisberger did not play.

This schedule won’t be a cakewalk, especially the road games. Cleveland doesn’t scare anyone, but playing in Pittsburgh, Seattle, Los Angeles, and New England is brutal. Not to mention the Chiefs will host both Jacksonville and a much improved 49ers team.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

It’s a good assumption that Alex Smith will no longer be a Chief, so primetime games probably won’t be as aplenty as they were in 2017. Obviously they’ll get a Thursday Night Football slot (unless the NFL finally decides to do away with it), which will probably be against one of their AFC West foes.

Other than that game, the Chiefs tend to get primetime match-ups with Pittsburgh frequently, much to Chiefs fans’ dismay. The game in Foxboro could be a potential primetime affair too, as the Chiefs took down the Patriots in the season opener this past season.

Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing how the Chiefs will do against the NFC West. It was a tough division in 2017 with the Rams taking the league by storm and winning their division for the first time since 2003. A road game in Seattle will be fun too, as that’s another stadium that prides themselves on being loud.

With a new quarterback taking over in 2018 and a tough schedule, the Kansas City Chiefs already have their work cut out for them next year. The NFL should announce the dates for the games sometime in April.
