For once, something positive developed within the Kansas Jayhawks football program. The struggling program led by head coach David Beaty, hauled in the program’s first ever top 100 recruit to take his talents to Lawrence, Kansas.

The 97th overall recruit, according to Rivals.com, made his February committment to the Kansas football program official Wednesday afternoon. Corione Harris, out of Landry-Walker High School, in New Orleans, signed his letter of intent for the Kansas Jayhawks.

Harris is one of the five Louisiana prospects that committed to Kansas. Although, former high school teammate, Devonte’ Jason decommitted from the Jayhawks and signed with the Bulldogs of Mississippi State.

Harris will not be the first Landry-Walker alum to play for the Jayhawks, as he will once again meet up with a high school former teammate – cornerback Mike Lee. Having this duo on the football field creates one of the most exciting secondary talents Kansas has seen, possibly since the dominating 2007 duo of Aqib Talib, and Chris Harris.

Harris, and Lee have the opportunity to turn the program around. Having Harris, and Lee in the secondary bulk up the talent, and provide notice to future prospects considering the Jayhawks.

Harris’ committment means many things for the Jayhawk football program. For one, it gives the Jayhawk program momentum moving forward, and two – it makes head coach David Beaty, and coach Tony Hull look like an even better recruiters.

Some say the future of the program has no hope, as of now. But, with the addition of Harris, things could eventually start changing for the better.

More from Kansas Jayhawks

Harris has an incredible opportunity to change the mood within the program, and help Beaty get things going in a positive direction. Harris is a must-watch in person. He is probably the first “must-see” on the Jayhawk football team, ever since the 2008 Orange Bowl team.

A former LSU commit, Harris’ 6’1”, 170 pound frame helps him stick to wide receivers like glue. With Harris on the defensive side of the football, things may start taking shape for the Kansas football program.

Make all of the jokes about Kansas football that you want, but the program is making strides in the recruitment aspect. While their one-win season in 2017 was a huge disappointment, there is still hope that the Jayhawks will get things turned around and be able to win more games in the near future.
