Royals Rumors: MLB Trade Market

Whit Merrifield – IF/OF

I have to say that I’m surprised it took so long for Whit Merrifield to hit our Royals Rumors. Merrifield emerged as one of the best players on the Kansas City roster this past year. He’s still under 30 and has found his stride both offensively and defensively.

On top of his on-the-field advantages, Whit Merrifield comes with a contract that would be very team friendly. Merrifield currently has two years of “Team Control” left on his deal, along with three years of “Arbitration” afterwards. That would give whatever team he’s on a lot of options moving forward.

The return that Kansas City could get on Whit Merrifield could be very much skewed in their favor. While Merrifield has emerged recently, he doesn’t have a lot on his resume. The Royals need to get some young talent, and they could grab a few prospects in return for Merrifield. At the same time, KC has both Raul Mondesi Jr and Ramon Torres as potential second-basemen waiting in the wings.
