Royals Rumors: Whit Merrifield and Kelvin Herrera drawing interest

Our latest Royals Rumors delves into the trade market. MLB Network’s Jon Heyman is reporting that Whit Merrifield and Kelvin Herrera are drawing some interest.
It has been a seemingly slow start to free agency for Major League Baseball this year. USA Today’s Jon Heyman is reporting that the slow market is due to the myriad of trade options still available. Two names of particular interest for our Royals Rumors are Whit Merrifield and Kelvin Herrera, both of whom are drawing interest.
This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise for Kansas City Royals fans. The Royals have already made it clear that they will listen to offers for anyone on the roster right now. It was only a matter of time before someone came asking about Whit Merrifield and Kelvin Herrera.
Both players are under 30 years old, and have some of their best baseball still in front of them. Any team looking to contend in 2018 would certainly like to add them to the mix. That will be especially true in the AL East where it looks like an arms race may be set to unfold now that the Yankees have built a new “Murderer’s Row”.

Of course, none of this is really good news for anyone who had hopes of the Royals sticking together. It’s probably the best course of action for Kansas City to start thinking long-term again, but it will still mean some frustrating years in the meantime. That is especially true if they are willing to let go of fan favorites.
