Broncos wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders took to The Players Tribune to talk about the five toughest corners he’s faced. Two current Kansas City Chiefs made the list.
The Players Tribune has become an amazing tool for athletes to reach out to the fans. Broncos receiver Emmanuel Sanders did so this morning to talk about the best corners he has ever faced. It might or might not surprise you, but two current Kansas City Chiefs made his list.
Emmanuel Sanders listed both Marcus Peters and Darrelle Revis as two of the toughest cornerbacks he has ever faced. That’s some high praise for a pair of Chiefs from a division rival. The fact that a receiver the caliber of Sanders would mention even one of your corners is impressive. Two is something else altogether.
Now I know that a lot of you are already rushing to be the one to point out that he’s talking about Darrelle Revis from years ago. You can go ahead and stop, we all know that is what Sanders is talking about. Of course, I can easily point out to you that Revis has been solid in each of the last two games.
Don't throw at Marcus Peters.

Marcus Peters Is King
There has been some griping about Marcus Peters from Kansas City Chiefs fans this season. It’s ridiculous and not even the least bit related to his actual play on the field. However, it has still been there. Meanwhile, Peters has had another very solid season in his young career.
Emmanuel Sanders does give us some insight into how Marcus Peters plays though. A lot of people have been frustrated with Peters constantly playing off the receiver. Many have blamed Bob Sutton for it. Sanders points out that this is actually the strength of what the Chiefs star corner does:
"“…Marcus sits back, keeps you in front of him and waits to jump the route once the ball is in the air. He’s able to do that because he doesn’t play the receiver like Malcolm does — he doesn’t even look at the receiver.”"
When you see it broken down like this by an opposing receiver like Emmanuel Sanders, it actually makes a lot of sense. It also shows how dangerous Marcus Peters really is to opposing offenses, and how the Chiefs have embraced that concept.
Darrelle Revis Still Has Some Talent
It is perfectly fair to be skeptical of Kansas City Chiefs recent addition Darrelle Revis. He is past his prime and not the same player he once was. Revis doesn’t physically match-up well with top receivers anymore. However, as Emmanuel Sanders points out, that isn’t what his game is based on: “He’s just straight up technique savvy, man.”

Darrelle Revis plays a rotational role for the Chiefs defense right now, which is perfect for him. Revis bases his game on technique and understanding what the receiver is going to do. That is an advantage for the Kansas City secondary. Revis can still be effective in a limited role, while teaching some of those tricks to the younger players.
That technique-based approach is tried and true for Darrelle Revis. It’s what earns the respect of a player like Emmanuel Sanders. It is also why Revis is still deserving of respect this late in his career. That’s something that Kansas City Chiefs fans should be taking some pride in that, especially as we head to the playoffs.
There is a ton of talent on the Kansas City Chiefs roster right now. However, sometimes it gets a little difficult to keep all of that in mind, but the rest of the league knows it. Seeing two Chiefs corners making a list like this should reinforce just how tough this team really is.
