The Kansas City Royals made the Fandom 250, but not as high as they should have been. The boys in blue came in at number 183 on the rankings.

It’s nice to see the nation giving Kansas City Royals fans props after the team went to two straight World Series and won it all just two years ago. You see, Royals fans waited a long time for a good baseball team. And when I say a long time, for some of us, it was a LIFETIME of waiting for good baseball in Kansas City.

From 1986-2012, the Kansas City Royals had just six winning seasons. SIX. Yet even in those bad times, Royals fans stuck with this organization and knew that someday, cheering for a “perennial loser” would pay off.

Pay off it did, as the Royals had three straight winning seasons from 2013-2015. That, of course, included two trips to the World Series in 2014 and 2015. How can anyone question Royals fans after seeing the picture of them at the World Series parade in 2015? The streets of downtown Kansas City were PACKED with eager Royals fans and the scene at the rally at Union Station was insane.

Fortunately, the Fandom 250 took all of this into account when ranking the Kansas City Royals as the 183rd best fandom in all of the world. They were ranked as the ninth best MLB fans behind the Cubs, Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Cardinals, Indians, Astros, and Mets.

Obviously I understand being ranked behind the “big dogs” of Major League Baseball, but the Cardinals, Indians, and Mets? Really? Cardinals fans are most known for having a parody Twitter account mocking them, Indians fans just started showing up this season, and Mets fans… Well, let’s not even go there.

As the write-up on Royals fans notes, even when having a losing team, Royals fans still managed to fill the stadium as best they could.

"Heck, in 2009, when the team lost 97 games, Kauffman Stadium was still filled to nearly 60 percent capacity on a nightly basis."

I don’t think many fans would show up to watch a really bad team every year, but Royals fans did it for quite some time. When the team was a legitimate contender, the fans supported them as well, and that showed big time in the All-Star Game voting in 2015. Fans almost got Omar Infante voted into the summer classic as the starting second baseman for the American League. Now that’s dedication!

It’s a bummer that the Kansas City Royals couldn’t be ranked higher on the Fandom 250, but 183 is better than nothing I guess. At least Royals fans know they’re the best and that’s really all that matters, right?
