The Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders are rivals, but fortunately Raiders quarterback Derek Carr hasn’t had much success against the Chiefs.

Since the Oakland Raiders drafted Derek Carr in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs have gone 6-2 against the black and silver. Sometimes you can’t blame the losses all on the quarterback, but Derek Carr has not been good against the Chiefs.

Since the start of his career, Carr has struggled against the Chiefs. Sure, his first career win came against Kansas City in 2014, but that was a Thursday Night Football game in Oakland. It’s a known fact that the road team has a huge disadvantage in those games, as they have to play on a short week AND travel.

Carr’s two wins against the Chiefs both were on Thursday night and both took place in Oakland. He is 0-4 at Arrowhead Stadium and 0-2 in non-Thursday night games in the Black Hole. In other words, the Kansas City Chiefs appear to be Carr’s kryptonite.

Last year, everyone was singing Oakland’s praises when they had a successful season led by Carr. Carr was heavily being discussed as an MVP candidate, but it all came crashing down when he fell flat on his face in the freezing cold temperatures at Arrowhead on Thursday Night Football.

In that game, Carr threw for just 117 yards while going 17 of 41 on the night with zero touchdown passes. He also struggled this past Sunday against the Chiefs in Kansas City and had only passed for 69 yards in the first half.

Carr has played so poorly against the Chiefs that Keith Saito of Golden Gate Sports suggested that the Raiders bring on a new quarterback that they ONLY use in games against Kansas City.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

"As good as Carr is, and is very, very good, he can’t – for whatever reason – get over on Kansas City. They have got his number, they’re in his kitchen, or whatever euphemism you want to use, but Carr has some sort of a block when it comes to the Chiefs. And it never fails that when he faces them, he puts up some of his worst statistical performances.~~~The Raiders just need to bring somebody in twice a year. Somebody who can actually beat the Chiefs.Because it’s obvious that, for whatever reason, Carr can’t do it."

People thought perhaps Carr had finally figured the Chiefs out after he threw for 417 yards against them earlier this season, but we saw that wasn’t the case. Sometimes teams just have a player’s number (or vice versa) and that appears to be the case when it comes to Derek Carr and the Chiefs.

Unfortunately for Carr (and fortunately for the Chiefs), he’s in the AFC West and unless he eventually moves onto another team, he’ll be playing the Kansas City Chiefs at least twice a year for the rest of his career. At least with the Chiefs’ struggles against the Steelers, they don’t necessarily HAVE to play them every year (though both teams’ successes have made it a frequent match-up).

It’s easy to dislike members of the Oakland Raiders and with Derek Carr being their quarterback, of course Chiefs Kingdom isn’t going to like him. It makes it even better watching him struggle against the Chiefs. Hopefully he never gets over that hump.
