The losing streak is over, as the Kansas City Chiefs finally got a W. They beat the Oakland Raiders 26-15 and remain in first place in the AFC West.

The Kansas City Chiefs finally righted the ship and will stay atop the AFC West no matter what happens in the Chargers game this afternoon. At one point, Kansas City was shutting out the Raiders and it was 26-0 in the beginning of the fourth quarter.

The difference maker in this one, aside the defense doing a good job (despite Marcus Peters not playing) was Kareem Hunt getting involved in the offense. Hunt finished the day with 25 carries for 116 yards and a touchdown and caught three passes for 22 yards.

During the Chiefs’ losing streak, Hunt wasn’t doing anything. Of course, we all knew Hunt needed to get more involved, but the offensive line wasn’t doing him any favors.

Speaking of which, they struggled on Sunday, allowing Alex Smith to be sacked four times. Smith had a good day though, throwing for 268 yards and an interception. The offensive line wasn’t doing him any favors, but Smith persevered. He ran for 24 yards on the day as well.

Let’s talk about the defense though. After a game where they got embarrassed by Josh McCown and the New York Jets, fans worried that the Chiefs defense was no longer a solid unit.

Once again, the Chiefs defense continued to be Derek Carr‘s kryptonite, as he had a miserable first half at Arrowhead. Carr had just 69 yards passing at half time when his Raiders trailed 16-0.

Now Carr would end the day with 211 yards and a touchdown (plus two picks), but a lot was in garbage time. He is now 2-6 against the Chiefs in his career and 0-4 at Arrowhead Stadium. I’m not sure if the Tomahawk Chop is in Carr’s head or what, but the guy just doesn’t have success in Kansas City and Chiefs fans are just fine with that.

So for now, the Kansas City Chiefs still lead the AFC West at 7-6. Even if the Los Angeles Chargers win later in the day, the Chiefs have the head-to-head advantage, BUT… The two will play next week in Kansas City in what will more than likely decide who is winning the laughable AFC West.

This was the first of three straight home games for the KC Chiefs, which puts them in great position to get a winning streak going. Don’t give up on this team yet, folks. The season is not over.
