The Kansas City Chiefs could be rebuilding this offseason and with that, some trades could happen in order to acquire more draft picks. Could Marcus Peters be on the move?

Let me start off by saying that this is PURELY SPECULATION and just a theory I thought of when thinking about the whole Marcus Peters situation. Peters has been one of the Kansas City Chiefs‘ best defensive players, but fans haven’t been happy with Peters’ on the field (or off the field for that matter) antics.

Peters, a two-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro cornerback, has been a star at the position since the Chiefs drafted him in the first round in 2015. He turned heads as a rookie picking off eight passes and returning two for touchdowns.

This year has been an up and down year for Peters, but his recent tantrum where he threw a penalty flag into the stands was enough for Andy Reid to suspend him this week. The fans’ reaction to the suspension (read the comment section on any Peters related article and you’ll see what I’m getting at) put into perspective to me that Chiefs fans seem to be over Marcus Peters, even if he is one of the best cornerbacks in the league.

With all of that said, could the Kansas City Chiefs trade Marcus Peters during the offseason? I know it sounds crazy, but hear me out.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

Peters is a top talent in the league at his position and top cornerbacks are tough to find. If the Chiefs put Peters out there on the trade market, they very well could get a second round pick for him. That’d be critical in rebuilding this team.

As far as a first rounder is concerned, Peters probably wouldn’t be worth that to teams. He has major attitude issues (see penalty flag issue and punting the football into the stands last year as examples) and gives up big plays. He also has trouble tackling.

In case you forgot, the Chiefs don’t have a first round pick next year due to trading their 2018 first rounder in order to draft Patrick Mahomes. In order to successfully rebuild, the KC Chiefs will need draft picks and lots of them. Right now, they’ll have just five picks in the 2018 NFL Draft.

A lot of teams would be interested in having a corner like Marcus Peters and the Chiefs could use that to their advantage. Yes, it’d mean they’d no longer have that solid corner on one side of the field, but this team probably isn’t contending in 2018 and possibly not in 2019 either.

The Patrick Mahomes era will consist of a few rebuilding years, which is perfectly fine for a team with a rookie quarterback. If the Chiefs want to get some help at other positions, trading Peters could be the perfect solution.

What do you think, Chiefs fans? Is this too bold or would you be okay with Kansas City doing this?
