CON NUMBER ONE – RUSHING THE PROCESS

You know the saying and I know the saying: “Great things take time.”  In Mahomes’ case, patience is a much-needed virtue.

Mahomes lacks some of the needed fundamentals to start quarterback in the NFL. Although the fundamentals are easily added with time, so there is no concern, other than letting him grow as a player each and every day.

Hence the phrase “with time” above, because Mahomes’ future looks incredibly bright, but right now may be the wrong time to unleash the rookie.

When the Chiefs drafted Mahomes, they knew right away that Mahomes was not fundamentally-sound enough to start right away. But, with his tendencies, and capabilities,  Mahomes eventually will be the starting quarterback, obviously.

It remains a question whether the team did not expect Smith to decline this much, or were willing to wait out one more season before beginning the change at quarterback.

If the team is willing to wait out this season to further develop the Mahomes, then so be it. You have to think “end result” here. Wouldn’t you rather have one below average season with a below average quarterback, only to be rewarded with a Brett Favre 2.0 in the following seasons?

I am just fine with not rushing the development, only to get a better product in the long-run.
