Skylar Thompson

Statistically speaking, Skylar didn’t exactly have a night to write home about. He only had 152 yards passing and 12 yards rushing. If I use my “internet MD” degree, I’d even suggest he looked hurt and the gameplan reflected a team trying to protect its quarterback.

However, the kid appears to have that “wining” trait. I realize I mostly use statistics to make my arguments and so suggesting he has some unmeasurable trait like “winning” runs counter to everything I write. But what else is it? Because he provides plays like this.

The Refs

Look. Iowa State twitter has some fans losing their minds over this game. For example

Don’t get me wrong. Fans say stupid stuff in the head of the moment. These two are two examples of that. But I think they have missed more calls on Iowa State, including a possible targeting, multiple offsides, and The point of this rant, like most of my reffing rants, is that fans deserve better. I think both K-State fans and Iowa State fans can agree.

But Iowa State lost this game because of how Matt Campbell and his staff handled the final six minutes of the game. Readers of my articles and K-State fans know this pain as we’ve had two different examples of losing the game with coaching in the final minutes this season (WVU and UT).

The two straight passing plays on their final drive where they threw incomplete instead of wasting K-State’s two final timeouts were simply inexcusable. It was a lack of situational game awareness that falls on the head coaches shoulders.

Other Game Balls

A few other noteworthy performances

  1. Jayd Kirby – 8 tackles and 1 sack
  2. The defense holding ISU to 19 points
  3. Dalvin Warmack – 10 carries for 42 yards and 1 catch for 24 yards
