POTENTIAL LANDING SPOTS FOR ERIC HOSMER – ST. LOUIS CARDINALS

For those that gagged at the thought of Eric Hosmer playing for the Yankees, that’s my reaction when picturing him in St. Louis as a member of the Cardinals. This would be the worst case scenario for me personally.

The Cardinals, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, are interested in acquiring Hosmer though and that’s unfortunate. Goold writes,

"There is a strong market for first baseman Eric Hosmer, and yes the teams that have at least expressed interest includes the Cardinals. He was described by a source as “a good fit” for what the Cardinals want to do for their lineup. if [Hosmer] does sign with the team on the other side of the state, it’ll be much more difficult for me to root for him."

During the season, there was a little bit of buzz surrounding Hosmer possibly going to St. Louis and it started with Buster Olney. Olney wrote at the time,

"The Cardinals have discussed the need to get better defensively, to get more athletic, and unquestionably, they would do so if they dealt Carpenter away and invested in Hosmer to be their everyday first baseman — and Hosmer would make the Cardinals’ pitching and the rest of the St. Louis infielders better with his defensive prowess."

In order for this to happen, the Cardinals would likely part ways with Matt Carpenter, who has not been great defensively for the Red Birds. That’d rub the fan base the wrong way, but somehow, I doubt the Cardinals really care.

I won’t be angry with Eric Hosmer for leaving Kansas City, but if he does sign with the team on the other side of the state, it’ll be much more difficult for me to root for him.
