Kansas City Chiefs: Rapid Reaction vs the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 6
By Chris Taylor
The Kansas City Chiefs are no longer undefeated as they were outcoached and outplayed by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Last week the Kansas City Chiefs offense started off hot to start the game against the Houston Texans. This week that couldn’t have been any further away from the truth.
LeVeon Bell continued where he left off in the Divisional game last season. Early on the Chiefs defense had no answer for him.
Bad blocking and treacherous tackling combined with bad luck and continuous bad play by certain individuals not to be named doomed the Chiefs all game.
Missed opportunities were the story of the game. The Chiefs got whipped the whole duration, yet in the end it seemed as though they should be winning.

The game started with a decent drive by Pittsburgh that haulted thanks to a Dee Ford sack. Three plays later Zach Fulton hiked the ball to the back of the end zone. Pittsburgh took the lead on the safety 2-0.
On the free kick Kansas City recovered as no Pittsburgh Steeler attempted to recover it. The Chiefs were unable to take full advantage of the turnover as the offense did nothing. Harrison Butker kicks the 46 yard field goal and the Chiefs take the lead 3-2.
LeVeon Bell continued his dominance of the Chiefs on the next drive. Runs of 14, 10, 9, 13, 6, 8, and 3 yards for the touchdown total. Pure dominance. 9-3 Pittsburgh.
Again there was nothing in response by the Kansas City Chiefs offense.
LeVeon Bell and Big Ben continued to pick the defense apart. The goal line defense stood strong however, forcing a field goal. The Pittsburgh Steelers led 12-3 at Arrowhead Stadium.
More nonsense from Alex Smith and the offense as they went backward. The Chiefs limped into halftime down by nine.
LeVeon Bell was already well over the century mark. Kareem Hunt had five yards. The Chiefs offense totalled six yards for the half. Coming in to the game as the leader in yards and points scored, the Chiefs were bamboozled.
Poor tackling and horrid blocking were much to blame for the debauchery of that half.
2nd Half
The start of the second half was more of the same for the Kansas City Chiefs offense. The defense looked shaky but held on during Pittsburgh’s first drive, forcing a punt.
The offense improved slightly gaining a first down before being forced to punt.
LeVeon Bell continued to make minced meat out if the defense. Luckily his offense line kept cheating. Forcing Pittsburgh back after a large gain by Bell. The Chiefs got the ball back and showed signs of life from Tyreek Hill and Kareem Hunt.
Hill fought hard to get the first down on a 10 yard pass play. Two plays later Alex Smith found Kareem Hunt for a 19 yard gain.
The last play of the third quarter was a 37 yard pass to Hunt, which was a brilliant play by Smith. Add 10 yards to the end of the play thanks to a roughing the passer penalty.
The Chiefs were faced with a 4th down decision. With a five receiver set Smith found Demetrius Harris for the touchdown/interception/incomplete pass.
Steelers ball at the four yard line. A field goal would have made it a one score game.
LeVeon Bell continued to make the defense look horrible. Two big plays back to back with an abundance of poor tackling involved found Pittsburgh near the 50 yard line just two plays after being backed to the four.
The Chiefs made enough plays to force the punt with nine minutes remaining.
Alex Smith started to make things happen. A first down pass to Kelce followed by a 57 yard touchdown to DeAnthony Thomas, who stayed in bounds and made multiple plays down field. 12-10 Pittsburgh. Wishing we kicked that field goal. Just over six minutes remaining.
Arrowhead Stadium is loud again and momentum is on the Kansas City Chiefs side.
The final five minutes
On 3rd and 2 the Chiefs had a perfect opportunity to pick the ball off but it hit Philip Gaines right in the facemask, only to bounce into Antonio Brown’s hands as he went down field for the touchdown. 19-10 Pittsburgh.
Two huge plays by Hunt and Travis Kelce got the Chiefs near the goal line but they settled for a field goal. 19-13 with two minutes and 30 seconds.
With two minutes and five seconds on 3rd and 8 the Chiefs the pass was broken up by Eric Murray to get one more opportunity.
A 27 yard return by Hill set the Chiefs up at the 44 yard line. A hard hit out of bounds put him out of the game. No penalty.
So without Hill the Chiefs were without their top three receivers.
A first down catch by Robinson got the Chiefs to the Pittsburgh 40.
Two missed pass attempts by Smith set up 3rd and 10.
Harrison beat Eric Fisher on back to back plays, getting a sack and forcing a desperation throw on 4th and forever.
The Kansas City Chiefs lose a game they should have won. The Pittsburgh Steelers have the Chiefs number, that is all.
