Huge news surfaced on Thursday afternoon, as Carrington Harrison of 610 Sports “The Drive” announced that Kansas basketball and Mizzou basketball could play an exhibition game at Sprint Center next weekend.

All Kansas Jayhawks and Missouri Tigers fans want is for the two schools to play again. Missouri left the Big 12 in 2012 and headed to the SEC and since then, the two main sports (football and basketball) haven’t squared off.

That could all be about to change though. Carrington Harrison, host of 610 Sports’ “The Drive” announced on the show on Thursday that the two schools could be playing an exhibition game next weekend for hurricane relief efforts.

This is still being negotiated, but hey! That works for fans!

While we’d all love to see this game actually count, beggars can’t be choosers, right? This could potentially be a step in the right direction and perhaps this could get the two units to play again down the road.

More from Kansas Jayhawks

Kansas basketball leads the Border War series all-time, but Missouri has taken a turn for the good when it comes to their upcoming season. They landed top recruit Michael Porter Jr. this offseason and landed some other impressive recruits in Jontay Porter, Jeremiah Tillman, and Blake Harris. These won’t be the same sad Tigers we’ve watched play the last three seasons. No sir, the Tigers will be legit in 2017-2018.

Again, this is still just in the works, but it’s an exciting rumor and one that many hope come to fruition. The Border War was always a blast for people who lived in the Midwest and it was a bummer when it was discontinued due to Missouri splitting for the SEC.

That move to the SEC hasn’t gone quite how MU was hoping it would, but now, we’re finally taking steps in the right direction for a potential Border War to return annually.

In the past, KU head coach Bill Self has been vocal about not wanting to play the Tigers because in all honesty… What does his team gain from that? Missouri hasn’t been good for a few years and if the Jayhawks did lose, it was against a school his team didn’t even have to play. It’s hard to blame him there, especially since his school wasn’t the one that bolted for another conference.

While this still isn’t confirmed, it’d be pretty cool if it did happen. Missouri and Kansas fans have been waiting for years for their two schools to play again and now, with a new and improved MU basketball team on the rise, this is as good a year to play as any.
