The Kansas City Royals didn’t have the dream season that fans were expecting, but they still had some great players who deserve to be recognized.

More from Kansas City Royals

While 2017 didn’t go the way we all hoped it would, some positives definitely emerged. Whit Merrifield and Jake Junis will be back in 2018 and both look to be solid pieces moving forward. Merrifield fills a need at second base while Junis stepped up big in the rotation when starter after starter went down with an injury.

As for the rest of the guys, all but one of them are free agents, and the one who isn’t is Salvador Perez. More than likely, Perez will be back, unless this team decides to tear everything down and completely rebuild. I don’t see that happening for another few years though.

Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, Mike Minor, and Lorenzo Cain are all free agents though. The Royals could pay Minor that $10 million option, but would that be worth it? Probably not.

The other three will become interesting stories for this ball club. Hosmer will be the Royals’ top priority and then from there, perhaps Cain or Moustakas will sign. At this point, we have to wait for the MLB season to officially wrap before we can get really anxious about everything. Hopefully Hosmer and another key player stays, but you never know what will happen in free agency.

What about you, Royals fans? Who is your player of the year for the Kansas City Royals?
