The Kansas City Royals haven’t had the season that fans were expecting, but with that said, they’re still keeping the fans interested even with their sloppy play.

After losing two games to the Minnesota Twins in this weekend’s series, it seemed evident that the Kansas City Royals were in big trouble as far as their postseason dreams went this year. Well, after that, the Royals won the next two games and are technically still in the thick of things as far as the playoffs go.

No, the Royals won’t be winning the American League Central due to Cleveland’s recent dominance, but the second Wild Card spot is still very much in play. The Royals are only two and a half games out of that second spot and made up ground on the Twins.

In order to make it into the playoffs, the Royals are going to have to play a near perfect final few weeks of the season. They’ll also have to hope that the Twins, Angels, and Orioles (teams ahead of them in the standings) struggle and that the Rangers, Mariners, and Rays continue to stay behind them in this particular race.

More from Kansas City Royals

It’s tough to be optimistic about the Royals’ chances at making it to the postseason, but it’s still a possibility for sure. When the offense gets hot, they’re tough to slow down, but lately the starting pitching has been horrible and the bullpen is just so unreliable. The Royals don’t even have a closer for goodness sakes!

The good news for this team is that Danny Duffy will hopefully be returning this week. Duffy would provide a much needed boost for this Kansas City Royals rotation, which has struggled since the second half of the season commenced in July.

The Chicago White Sox will make a trip to Kauffman Stadium this week before the Royals depart for Cleveland, Toronto, Chicago, and then to New York for a one-game make-up against the Yankees. The Royals have to do well in this stretch or the playoffs will become an even tougher feat to make.

As of now, the boys in blue’s elimination number from the playoffs altogether is 18 games. Do the Kansas City Royals have one last run in them to make the postseason? Can these guys fight for one last go of it?

We have just a few weeks left of the 2017 MLB season and for Royals fans, this could be the last few weeks of an extremely fun era in Kansas City Royals baseball.
