Week one of the college football season went well for Mizzou football, as their offense put up over 70 points against Missouri State. Week two of the season will see them facing their first SEC opponent of the year.

Week 1 was a relative cakewalk (for the offense at least) against the Missouri State Bears. That won’t be the case this week as Mizzou begins SEC play against the South Carolina Gamecocks. It should go without saying that this will be a much tougher test for the Tigers.

For starters, if we’re ranking the caliber of opponents, an SEC institution is always going to rank above one from the Missouri Valley. To any Bears fans reading this, do know that I say that with the utmost respect. However, it is true.

The Gamecocks enter this game coming off a victory over North Carolina State in week one. It’s not a stretch to say Carolina is more battle tested at this point. However, that’s no reason to be quick to write off another victory for the Tigers.

ESPN is basically predicting the game to be a toss-up with its matchup predictor favoring Carolina.

It’s very important for Mizzou to continue their winning ways this week against South Carolina. While Tiger fans walked away happy after last week’s result, any loss (especially a bad one) could result in the return of apathetic feelings.

There are many storylines Tiger fans should be invested in during Saturday’s matchup. The three most pressing cover Drew Lock’s continued success, the need for improvement on defense, and Barry Odom’s job security moving forward.
