Mizzou football kicked off their 2017 campaign with a 72-48 victory over the Missouri State Bears. It was the first time the two Missouri universities had squared off in football since the early 1920s.

It’s college football season baby! Mizzou football fans got to see their Tigers begin their 2017 season in Columbia against the in-state Missouri State Bears out of Springfield. While the two are both Missouri universities, it had been a hot minute since they faced off in the sport of football.

First off, hats off to Missouri State in this game. The Bears are in the Missouri Valley Conference, meaning that they shouldn’t have been playing very well against an SEC opponent. Missouri State showed early on that they were here to play and were still very much in the game early into the second half.

It wasn’t a stellar outing for the Missouri defense, but the offense looked to be firing on all cylinders. The offense could end up having to carry MU this season, as the defense surrendered 35 points to Missouri State in the first half alone. Yikes.

Missouri ended up pulling away in the second half, but the first half of football left a lot to be desired for Tiger fans. The defense will not be seeing a good grade, but what will the rest of the grades for Missouri look like after this one? Let’s get to the first Mizzou football report card of the 2017 season and find out!
