The Kansas City Chiefs did the unthinkable on Thursday night, knocking off the defending champs on their home turf. The Patriots raised their fifth banner, but the Chiefs had the last laugh in this one.

THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS BEAT THE NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS WHEN NO ONE SAID THEY WOULD!!!! ALEX SMITH THREW FOR OVER 300 YARDS!!! KAREEM HUNT OMGOMGOMG!!!

Sorry if that was a little extreme, but oh jeez what an opener, man! The Kansas City Chiefs took down the defending Super Bowl champions on their home turf and didn’t even break a sweat in doing so. The final score was 42-27 in what will forever be a night to remember for Chiefs Kingdom.

We saw a whole new Chiefs team in the season opener, as the good guys pulled off the biggest upset imaginable in week one. No one goes into Foxboro and leaves with a victory, but the Kansas City Chiefs did just that tonight and oh my goodness was it glorious!

The biggest takeaways from this game, other than the win of course, was how well the offense played. Alex Smith looked like a man with a fire lit under his butt. Smith threw for 368 yards and four touchdowns and outplayed Tom Brady. WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE!

Rookie Kareem Hunt had a hell of an NFL debut. It didn’t look like it was going to be off to a good start, with Hunt fumbling on his first NFL carry, but the kid went on to put up incredible stats. He rushed for 148 yards off of 17 carries and caught five passes for 98 yards. Hunt totaled three touchdowns on the evening.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

Some upsetting parts about this game were all of the penalties. The KC Chiefs racked up 15 penalties to New England’s six, which could have been a lot more costly.

The biggest news from the evening, however, was Eric Berry leaving the game on a cart with an Achilles injury. As we know with some of our favorite players in the past, Achilles injuries can be brutal and Berry could end up missing a good chunk of the season. I’m not a doctor though, so hopefully I’m wrong.

At the end of the night though, the Kansas City Chiefs did the unthinkable. No one thought the Chiefs were going to storm in Foxboro and leave with a W, but they did just that. I still am stunned with the results, but I’m so happy to see this type of game from the Chiefs. They took the Patriots to the woodshed in this one and it was fantastic to see.

What about you, Chiefs Kingdom? What did you take out of this game?
