Kansas City Royals: Sad and Costly Decline of Alex Gordon
By Joel Wagler
THE SEASON CAN STILL BE SAVED FOR ALEX GORDON AND THE KANSAS CITY ROYALS
Despite the struggles of the last few weeks, and despite the decline of one of the franchise’s greatest all time players, the Kansas City Royals can still save this season.
Somehow, the Royals are still in the hunt for a wild card spot in the Ameican League. They sit a measly 3 games out of that final wild card slot.

If Alex Gordon can get hotter than he has been in over two years, he could spark this team to another postseason run.
Everyone knows this is the last hurrah for this core group. Many of them will be gone next season.
Still, Gordon could be the key. What a story it would be if he could lead this team to a few more moments of glory. The Royals need Gordon to be better if they want to have a chance at another playoff appearance.
If this fan favorite doesn’t recover some of his former skills in the near future, and the Royals can’t bounce back and turn this season around, the next couple of seasons are going to be bleak in Kansas City.
More than likely, Hosmer, Cain, Mike Moustakas, Alcides Escobar, and Jason Vargas will be gone, and Alex Gordon will be eating up $20 million of whatever budget Dayton Moore will have to sign players in each of the next two years.
For a team that will be trying to replace some key ingredients, that $20 million will be a big albatross for the Royals over the next two seasons.
Everyone has to hope somehow Alex Gordon figures things out and he isn’t washed up for good. It would be a sad legacy to such an important player in Royals’ history.
