Five Games That Could Be in the Win Column – Week 5: Texas Tech

Last season, KU Football got a beating from the Red Raiders on the road. It was not pretty in the least bit. This time, however,  it is not only a home game for the Jayhawks, but the Red Raiders are missing a pretty essential component to their team: Patrick Mahomes, who went off to chase his NFL dream.

Texas Tech always has a pretty high-powered offense, but not having Mahomes around is going to knock the Red Raiders down a couple of pegs. They’ll still put up points, but remember – Their defense was always allowing offenses to score. There was a game against Oklahoma last year where Mahomes had to throw for over 700 yards and the Raiders still lost.

Mahomes made the offense last season, and with the unknowns that Nic Shimonek brings to the team, who knows? Maybe Texas Tech is just unable to figure it out.

With a complete change to the dynamic of Texas Tech in the wrong direction and Kansas heading in the right direction, this could be the first Big 12 blowout for the Jayhawks.
