The starters will see their most work of the preseason this week as the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Seattle Seahawks. Keep up here in our open thread.

It is Week 3 of the NFL preseason, and that means we are going to see the most action from the starters that we’ll get until the start of the regular season. For the Kansas City Chiefs, that may actually be a bit of a wet blanket for some fans who just want to see more of Patrick Mahomes. However, there is still a lot to like about the game this week, even if he gets limited time.

First and foremost is that the Chiefs starters have looked very good so far this preseason. That includes starting quarterback Alex Smith, who is a bit of a divisive figure in Kansas City. So far this preseason, Smith has been pretty hot. He’s done nothing but lead scoring drives so far, and that is definitely encouraging for the regular season.

On top of Alex Smith, Chiefs fans will finally get to see Chris Jones and Eric Berry back on the field. Both players have been sidelined with injuries for most of the preseason. The fact that KC has looked so good without these two has to be exciting for the fan base. Getting them back on the field should make things even more fun to watch.

What To Watch For

As if there was anything more important to Kansas City Chiefs fans right now than the play and development of Patrick Mahomes. You can feel the excitement for this young man as he continues to impress throughout the preseason. Chiefs Kingdom knows to be patient, but you can already see the cracks in that armor.

I am fully expecting to hear a call for Patrick Mahomes to start at some point this season. Chiefs fans just won’t be able to help themselves, and you know the talking heads on the radio are going to be pushing it. Kansas City will undoubtedly lose at least one football game this year. Alex Smith will certainly have a slow game. At that point, all bets are off.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs look to have a fantastic roster this year, and should absolutely be a playoff contender. However, all anyone is really thinking about is getting Patrick Mahomes out onto the field. So get ready for a lot of talk about that this year.
