Top 15 Rookies to Target in Fantasy Football: Number 7 – Joe Williams

The San Francisco 49ers aren’t destined for greatness in 2017, but their running game could be a little bit better with Joe Williams on board. The Niners drafted Williams in the fourth round and the Utah standout could get some serious playing time in the bay.

If Hyde doesn’t perform well, the number one job could be Williams’ for the taking.

Carlos Hyde will likely be the starter for San Francisco, but the former second round pick has underwhelmed during his three seasons in the league. While he came close to 1,000 yards in 2016, that mark is something that Hyde has yet to achieve in three seasons as a professional running back in the NFL.

If Hyde doesn’t perform well, the number one job could be Williams’ for the taking. Injuries have plagued Hyde’s short career to this point, and if he ends up missing any time whatsoever, Williams could very well slide into that role and never relinquish it.

During his Utah career, Joe Williams rushed for 1,884 yards and 13 touchdowns in two seasons. His 2016 season saw him put up over 1,400 yards with ten touchdowns and he averaged 11.9 yards per carry. That could end up translating to the pros, but only if Carlos Hyde can’t stay on the field.

Joe Williams is someone keep an eye out for in the later rounds for sure.
