Kansas City Royals star catcher Salvador Perez returned to the lineup last night, and picked up where he left off with a very solid performance.

There is no doubt that the Kansas City Royals have been missing catcher Salvador Perez. Since losing their star and franchise face, the Royals have been on a depressing skid. Getting Perez back into the lineup gave KC a bit of a spark against a very good Colorado Rockies team last night.

Salvador Perez played a significant role in the success of the Royals last night. In his return to the lineup, Perez went 2/3 with an RBI double. In fact, that RBI double in the fourth inning would turn out to be the difference in the ballgame.

With last night’s performance, Salvador Perez is hitting .281/.310/.514 for the Royals this year. He’s also third on the team with 66 RBIs and second with 21 home runs. So having Perez’s bat in the lineup is definitely a key to success for Kansas City.

Just In Time

Now that Kansas City has Salvador Perez back, they need to get hot again as we come up on the final stretch of the season. The Royals may have fallen out of the division race at this point, but are still alive in the Wild Card hunt. KC sits just 1.5 games out of the second Wild Card spot.

Kansas City has a favorable schedule moving forward, but there is very little margin for error. They are going to have to put together a strong winning streak if they are going to get back into the playoff picture.

Hopefully, having Salvador Perez back in the lineup will provide some life to a team that has been lackluster in recent weeks. Granted, Perez won’t have much of an impact on a shaky bullpen. However, he is known for having a positive impact in the clubhouse and dugout, and that is something you don’t want to underestimate.

The Face Of Royals Baseball

More from Kansas City Royals

There is no denying that from the fan perspective it is great to have Salvador Perez back. There is no doubt that Perez has become the face of Kansas City Royals baseball over the past couple of seasons. His infectious good humor, along with his solid work in the field and at bat, make him an instant fan favorite.

That seems to be something that has spread throughout the organiza

tion. There often seems to be a big difference in the team when Salvador Perez isn’t in the lineup. There is certainly no doubt that the Royals feed off of his energy. That is evident at the end of every KC victory when they are standing by for a “Salvy Splash”.

The Kansas City Royals aren’t out of the playoff hunt just yet. Getting Salvador Perez back into the lineup is absolutely a crucial piece to this team turning things around. There is plenty of time left for a strong finish to the season and a trip to the playoffs. The Royals need to get refocused, and having Perez back should help that.
