Kansas City Chiefs Stock Report

Stock Down: Phillip Gaines

I don’t know that anyone had a rougher night against the Bengals than Phillip Gaines. The Kansas City Chiefs corner was abused on the outside for much of his time on the field. The biggest plays that Cincinnati was able to put together came against him. That’s not a good sign for the Chiefs corner depth.

This game likely solidified Terrance Mitchell as the starting outside corner opposite of Marcus Peters. However, it draws into question some serious concerns over the depth chart. The Chiefs do not have anyone that could be described as reliable to come in and help in case of injury. Phillip Gaines was supposed to be that guy.

The Chiefs may have to look to outside sources now that it appears Phillip Gaines is a liability. The young corner has regressed quite a bit from the player he was in his first two seasons. Kansas City GM Brett Veach will likely be on the lookout now for alternative options.
