Kansas City Chiefs: Things Learned In Preseason Week 2

#1 Patrick Mahomes Is Progressing Well

More from Kansas City Chiefs

It would be a tragedy if the first quarterback the Kansas City Chiefs have drafted in the first round in 34 years was a bust. Fortunately, Patrick Mahomes isn’t showing any signs of that being the case. Mahomes threw a pair of touchdowns in this game, and looked impressive overall.

Watching Patrick Mahomes, there is clearly still room for him to grow as a quarterback. He doesn’t look fully comfortable working under-center in the pocket, and the throws across his body need to be limited. However, he is showing a lot of poise and understanding so far, and the arm talent is absolutely as advertised.

It has been clear from the beginning that the Chiefs are hoping Patrick Mahomes can become the starter in 2018. Based on what we have seen so far, I would say there isn’t very much concern regarding that. Mahomes has been excellent in his preseason work, and Chiefs Kingdom has a lot to be excited about there.

It has been a solid preseason so far for the Kansas City Chiefs. Next week’s game will be the big one for the Chiefs starters as they will see their most playing time ahead of the regular season. That will give us a pretty clear picture of where this team is. Hopefully it will be more of the same from what we’ve seen so far.
