Kansas City Chiefs: 10 Things To Watch Vs The Bengals

#1 Can Patrick Mahomes Keep It Going?

More from Kansas City Chiefs

It will be the top story throughout the preseason as every Kansas City Chiefs fan has at least one eye on Patrick Mahomes at all times. Mahomes looked solid in his preseason debut last week, and earned the second string job as a result. He is slated to work the third quarter against the Bengals, but may get more time if the starters are pulled early.

However, it is important to remember that we’ve only seen Patrick Mahomes for a portion of a single preseason game. It’s far too early to declare what kind of quarterback he’ll be one way or the other. It can take more than a year for that to pan out. What we’re looking for here is his ability to make plays without making mistakes.

It’s easy to get carried away with a successful debut, and there is no doubt that was what we saw last week. However, Chiefs fans need to stay grounded on this issue. The last thing the team wants or needs right now is a quarterback controversy. It is much better if things progress as the coaching staff and front office have planned.

This will be a good test for the Kansas City Chiefs this week. The starters and top backups had a good showing last week, but they need to improve on that. Getting more playing time in against a better team should help them progress forward. Things are still shaping up well for the Chiefs to have another solid season.
