Kansas City Chiefs Stock Report

Stock Up: Patrick Mahomes

More from Kansas City Chiefs

It was definitely a solid debut for Kansas City Chiefs rookie quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Though he came in as the #3 quarterback on the depth chart, Mahomes was the main attraction of the night. He did not disappoint, leading a touchdown drive during his time on the field.

The big takeaway here is that Patrick Mahomes did not look overwhelmed in the Chiefs offense. In fact, he even worked in a number of the short passing routes that Kansas City has run with Alex Smith at the helm. If Mahomes has a firm understanding of how to work those routes, he may be ready for more work.

It appears that the Chiefs feel the same way as Patrick Mahomes is now taking snaps as the top backup behind Alex Smith in practices. That is a big step forward for Mahomes and an excellent sign for the future of Kansas City football.

While preseason games are often overlooked, there was no doubt that the Kansas City Chiefs were taking things seriously. We will be seeing some adjustments coming this week, it just remains to be seen if they hold up long term. The Chiefs have a solid roster and high expectations for this year. Time to find out if they can hold up.
