Royals rumors are all over the place recently, with the team being a question mark in the buying and selling categories. No one would want to be in Dayton Moore’s shoes right now.

Are the Kansas City Royals going to be buyers at the deadline or are the Kansas City Royals going to be sellers at the deadline? We’re still not quite sure what the answer to that question is, as the Royals are playing poorly out of the All-Star break, but still very much in the running within their division.

The Royals are in one of the worst situations imaginable at the moment. For starters, they’re playing bad baseball coming out of the All-Star break, as they’ve only managed to win one game since returning to action last Friday.

Other teams are starting to wave the white flag this season, with two of those teams being in the Royals’ division. The White Sox have traded Todd Frazier, Jose Quintana, and David Robertson while the Tigers have parted ways with J.D. Martinez. That makes the trading market even less valuable for the Royals when it comes to trying to find landing spots for their impending free agents.

The Royals are in one of the worst situations imaginable at the moment.

The Royals aren’t out of things by any means, but the way they’re playing early in the second half is not a good sign of what’s to come. The Indians, who many thought would wreck havoc in the American League Central, are only leading the division by three games, and the Twins are only ahead of the Royals by a game and a half.

The Indians could get hot at any moment and everyone is still expecting the Twins to fall off in the second half. The Royals still haven’t made up any ground so far, which is really concerning for their playoff chances.

Kansas City is still in the Wild Card chase too, sitting just three games out of the second spot. Is it worth giving up the big time free agents for just for a few prospects who might not even end panning out? The Royals could go on a tear with this group at any time, but they’re not going to do much of anything anytime soon with the prospects they’d bring in.

There has been a lot of buzz over sending Mike Moustakas to the Red Sox, but should the Royals give up on their season when they’re so close in their division? Or should they gladly take any deal that the Red Sox are throwing their way due to how poorly they’ve been playing?

What if the Indians go on a super hot streak and end up smoking the rest of the division out of contention? The Royals would be kicking themselves for not taking the Sox up on a deal for Moustakas.

I go back and forth constantly with whether I think the Kansas City Royals should be buyers or sellers, so I can only imagine how difficult this is for general manager Dayton Moore. He’s going to have to make a huge decision in the coming weeks and it’s going to be a decision that could either benefit the franchise or completely obliterate it.

I trust Dayton Moore’s decision, but I’m still anxious about what’s to come. If the Royals decide to go for it and buy a player or two, I’ll admire the courage and the drive to go for one last championship. If the Royals end up selling off their major pieces, then I’ll understand that decision too, because it could salvage the future, even just a little bit.

Moore has a tough dilemma to think about over the next few weeks and I don’t envy him one bit. Fans should trust him no matter decision he makes regarding the Royals rumors because… Let’s face it… None of us have any clue what to do at all.
