Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp Preview

Jah Reid and Zach Fulton – Backups

In terms of their backup options, I would say that the Kansas City Chiefs have the best situation in the NFL. Both Jah Reid and Zach Fulton are veteran players with a lot of starts under their belts. Fulton has started at every interior position for the Chiefs, while Reid has played the right side for them. That’s an excellent backup plan.

Now, I don’t expect anyone to get excited about either of these players in general. Both have their fair shares of inconsistencies and short-comings. However, it has to be remembered that we are talking about backups here. When you consider that, neither guy seems all that bad to have.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

In fact, it may not be a sure thing that Zach Fulton doesn’t beat out Parker Ehinger at the left guard spot. Fulton filled in admirably last year, and the truth is that we don’t know enough about where Ehinger will be at this year.

Another angle to consider though, is that decent linemen are in short supply in the NFL these days. It could be altogether possible that the Chiefs decide to shop one of these guys to a team with a much worse offensive line situation.

Prediction

I do think both Zach Fulton and Jah Reid make the roster this year. If you want to make a run at a Super Bowl, offensive line depth is almost certainly going to be needed. The Chiefs are in a good situation with Fulton and Reid on the roster, and it makes little sense to move either one unless the reward is too much to pass on.
