Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp Preview: Wide Receivers

Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp Preview
Tyreek Hill – Wide Receiver
Yes, you have to begin the conversation at wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs with Tyreek Hill. This is where the hopes of any kind of improvement will rest. As a rookie, Hill put up 593 yards receiving and six touchdowns on 61 receptions. Those are not great numbers, but it has to be factored in that Hill was primarily a running back in college.
When it comes to pure speed, there may not be anyone in the NFL faster than Tyreek Hill. On top of that, he has excellent quickness that allows him to stop suddenly and change direction. That is an incredibly dangerous combination when he has the ball in his hands.
That’s the question though. Can the Chiefs get the ball into his hands more as a receiver? The secret is out now and nobody will be taken by surprise by Tyreek Hill. That means the gimmick plays won’t be as effective. Hill HAS to become a complete receiver, showing the ability to run a full route tree.
I do believe that Tyreek Hill will improve on what he showed last season. The truth is that you could see it happening as the year went on. Hill has embraced the wide receiver position, so hopefully he has been working hard at learning the finer points.

Prediction
Tyreek Hill should be the Kansas City Chiefs primary outside weapon. He needs to step into the role now vacant with the Jeremy Maclin release. However, he also needs to be able to play that role much more like DeSean Jackson did for Andy Reid’s offense in Philadelphia. That should actually play to Hill’s strengths more. This is a huge story line to watch.
