July is officially here and the Kansas City Royals are 39-39 after 78 games in the 2017 season. While the season started off sour, the boys in blue had an incredible 17-9 campaign in the month of June. Can they continue to stay hot?

Just a month ago, Kansas City Royals fans were thinking sell, sell, sell when it came to the trade deadline that was far away. Now, however, the Royals are a whole new team and have gone from being potential sellers to potential buyers.

June was great for the Royals, but a lot of the success came from a west coast road trip in which the KC Royals went an impressive 7-2. Sure, those wins came against the Padres, Giants, and Mike Trout-less Angels, but the Royals did what they were expected to do, which was beat up on those weak teams.

To put Kansas City’s nice June in perspective, they lost their first series of the month on Thursday to the Detroit Tigers. They had won five straight series, which is what began this fun, wild ride for the boys in blue.

More from Kansas City Royals

All of this is even more impressive when you consider that the Kansas City Royals have been without two of their starters in their rotation. When Danny Duffy went on the disabled list, fans were really worried about the team’s chances down the stretch. The Royals were struggling then, but since Duffman went down, the team has actually played better.

On the final day of June, the Kansas City Royals had to try to do something they’d only done once this season: Beat the Minnesota Twins. It sounds like a joke, as the Royals consistently beat up on the Twins over the past few seasons, but Minnesota has been a better squad this season, and they’ve taken the Royals to the woodshed in 2017.

Kansas City opened up their biggest series of the season with a total 8-1 whooping over the Twinkies. As exciting as that game was though, Kansas City still has business to take care of in July. The Royals had a miserable July last season, only winning seven games in the entire month. It’s safe to say that last July is what kept the Royals out of the playoffs in 2016.

The American League Central is a winnable division right now, but the Kansas City Royals have to take control of it and start winning games against their division opponents. That’s something they’ve struggled to do this season and it explains their sluggish start.

It’s kind of a bummer that June is over because the KC Royals had as good of a month as an MLB team can have. Let’s hope they keep that momentum up in July!
