The Kansas City Royals made a pair of moves on Wednesday afternoon, which involved placing Cheslor Cuthbert on the ten-day disabled list and calling up outfielder Jorge Soler to the big leagues.

For the past week, I’ve been advocating for the Kansas City Royals to bring Jorge Soler to the big league level and let him try to redeem himself. Soler was lousy in his first 55 at bats, slashing a measly .164 with one home run, but he’s been killing it in the minor leagues.

The move that led the Royals to bring Soler to Kansas City was that Cheslor Cuthbert was placed on the disabled list with a left-wrist sprain. The move isn’t bad for the Royals, but Mike Moustakas will likely not be receiving many days off from now until Cuthbert returns to the club.

While Jorge Soler was struggling during his first month in the majors, he deserves a shot as the designated hitter for the Royals since Brandon Moss flat out sucks at hitting the ball. Soler’s stats in Omaha include a slash line of .324/.453/.667 with 11 home runs and 31 RBI. It’s time to let the kid loose and see what he can do.

More from Kansas City Royals

When the Kansas City Royals traded for Soler, fans knew it’d be a bit of an experiment in year one and potentially even in year two as well. The former Cub wasn’t playing good baseball during his short tenure in Kansas City, but now after some much needed at bats at the minor league level, perhaps Soler can turn things around at the plate against MLB pitchers and become that power hitter that the club needs.

I wrote earlier on about how the Kansas City Royals should look into adding Miguel Montero to their ranks to slide in as the designated hitter. Montero would be a good piece to have, but his price tag probably isn’t worth it for the Royals in the end.

If Soler can return to Kansas City and start hitting bombs, or just meaningful singles, then it’s safe to say that Brandon Moss will officially be a bust as a Royal. He is signed in 2018 though, which is certainly worth noting. That’d be a lot of money down the drain should the Royals opt to part ways with him so early on in the season.

One thing is for sure, I’m excited for Jorge Soler’s second chance in Kansas City and hope he can pick up the pace at the plate!
