The latest round of voting for the American League team in the 2017 MLB All-Star Game was revealed on Monday afternoon and the Kansas City Royals now have more guys in the running to make it to Miami.

While guys like Salvador Perez and Jason Vargas are near locks to make it to the 2017 MLB All-Star Game, there might not be a lot of other shoe-in participants for the Kansas City Royals. Fortunately, Royals fans are starting to wake up and get to voting their tails off, as the latest round of votes were revealed and a lot of Royals are in All-Star contention.

Perez is still crushing the competition at catcher and Eric Hosmer currently leads first basemen, but not by a huge margin. The biggest news in the first base ballot is that Justin Smoak of the Blue Jays has jumped into second place, leapfrogging Yonder Alonso of the A’s.

So, at the moment, the Royals have three guys set to go to the All-Star Game in a few weeks. Fans voted this past weekend though, helping Mike Moustakas and Whit Merrifield get into the top five at their respective positions and getting Lorenzo Cain to the top 15 in outfielders.

More from Kansas City Royals

Moustakas is currently in fourth in the third base voting, behind Miguel Sano, Jose Ramirez, and Josh Donaldson. Merrifield is fourth among second basemen and is quietly having a terrific season for the Royals. Cain is 12th for the outfield votes.

While I normally advocate having the best possible players appear in the All-Star Game, I’m a-okay with Kansas City Royals fans stuffing the ballot boxes this year. It is likely the last year that we’ll have these guys in a Royals uniform, so why not show them how much we appreciate them by getting them to one of Major League Baseball’s highest honor?

The other factor here is that all of these guys DESERVE to go to the All-Star Game. This isn’t like 2015 when Omar Infante and Alex Rios were leading the votes at their respective positions when they did not deserve to be. Cain, Moustakas, and Merrifield are all really doing their part for the Royals right now during this hot streak.

Keep voting, Royals fans! The voting for the 2017 All-Star Game ends this Thursday and the game itself will be played on July 11th. Let’s get as many as our boys in blue to Miami as possible!
