Kansas City Royals Single-Season Home Runs #1

Mike Moustakas – 37 (2017)

More from Royals All-Time Lists

Yes, there is a new king of the Kansas City Royals home run list. Mike Moustakas put up an impressive 2017 season at the plate to put an end to Steve Balboni’s 30+ year reign at the top. During his time with the Royals, Moustakas emerged as one of the team’s most prolific power hitters.

However, much like with most players on this list, the team didn’t play up to the level that Mike Moustakas did. The Royals came up short of a postseason birth in 2017, taking a little bit of the fire out of this record setting year.

To make matters worse, at the time of this update, it appears that Mike Moustakas is destined to depart Kansas City in free agency. That also puts him on par with a lot of the players on this list as many of them turned big seasons into big contracts elsewhere. Moustakas seems set to join a long list of star players that left KC.

The Kansas City Royals really don’t have a long history of hitting home runs. For various reasons, the team simply hasn’t been known as a power hitting club. However, there are a few players in Royals history that made their mark. We shall see if Mike Moustakas can join their ranks this year.
