The Kansas City Royals have a chance to cover some ground in the division as they face off against the Minnesota Twins this weekend. The Twins have owned the Royals so far this season.

It would not be unfair to say that the Kansas City Royals match ups against the Minnesota Twins this year have changed the season’s tone. Imagine for a second that the Royals had beaten the Twins in each of those games played. That would have KC in first in the AL Central at 22-18, and the Twins in last at 15-22.

Of course, you can’t change the past, and there is absolutely nothing that can be done about those losses. However, if someone wanted to say that the Twins were the biggest problem for the Royals this year, it holds some water. That is some added heat to an important series for the Royals this weekend.

Kansas City takes another trip to Minnesota to have at the Twins. As it stands this year, the Royals are 0-5 against Minnesota. That might be one of the most unexpected aspects of the year. The Twins have simply beaten the Royals at every turn.

So far this year, Kansas City has yet to hold the Twins under five runs in a game. Meanwhile, KC has only scored five runs against Minnesota one time this season. It has been a complete route for the team from the Twin Cities.

Not The Same Team?

However, the Minnesota Twins may be seeing a different Kansas City Royals team this time around. The Royals are coming off of a nice stretch of games, even though the lost two of three to the Yankees this week. There is no doubt that Kansas City is playing much better baseball now.

If the Royals can earn a series victory (even better if they can get a sweep), there is a very good chance they climb out of the AL Central cellar. Kansas City remains just 4.5 games back of the Twins in the division, so they are not terribly behind in the race.

The problem though is that the Twins have had an answer for everything the Royals have done this year. The law of averages would say that KC should have taken at least one game by now. For whatever reason, Minnesota has just had their number this year.

Trade Talk Increasing

The other key point to this series is that it could be the deciding line for the Kansas City Royals in trade posture. Dayton Moore has been a bit defiant recently regarding selling off pieces. However, that hasn’t stopped outsiders from saying the Royals need to get moving.

If the Royals drop this series, they will be hard-pressed to argue in favor of holding off on trading players. However, a series win puts them right back into the thick of things. Depending on who you ask, either result will be a popular one.

The Kansas City Royals are in a position to make a big move in the AL Central. However, that move will have to come against the team that has done the most damage to them in 2017. Can the Royals finally find a way to get over the Twins? If they have any hopes of making the postseason this year, they have to.
