The Kansas City Chiefs have been one of the better teams in the NFL over the last four years. They might not have any Super Bowl rings to show for it, but the fans should still be thankful for what they have.
All professional sports teams have “championship windows” (unless you’re the Patriots, in which case you’re never bad) and the Kansas City Chiefs are in their championship window now. They’ve been in that window ever since Andy Reid came to town in 2013.
While the Chiefs haven’t gone deep into the postseason yet during this current regime’s tenure in office, fans should still sit back and realize that we’ve got a good thing going in Kansas City right now with this football team.
If nothing else, look at the Kansas City Royals. The Royals were bad forever and then had three (maybe four if you count 2016) seasons of relevancy and now they’re back on the “bad” side of things again. Their championship window was cut shorter than many expected and the fans didn’t expect the window to close so soon.

With the Chiefs, things are different. This current group should still be intact for years down the road, which should spell success for the KC Chiefs for a long time. They got their quarterback of the future in place and have seemingly locked up the big time players to extensions.
Some fans might be upset that this team still has yet to reach a Super Bowl, but I’ll counter with: Look where the Chiefs were before Reid and company got to town. They were near the bottom of the standings nearly every year and when they did make it into the playoffs, they were usually quick to be eliminated (though that part hasn’t really changed).
My point is that the Chiefs gave us bad to awful football for a number of years and now the team is a contender every year. Alex Smith tends to give fans headaches, but with him in town, the Chiefs have been winners every single year. They only missed the playoffs once during that time and that’s a pretty great accomplishment.
Just think – If Patrick Mahomes does end up succeeding as an NFL quarterback, the KC Chiefs will be threats to win the Super Bowl every year for a decade after he officially takes over. That’s something that has to make everyone in Chiefs Kingdom smile.
It wasn’t long ago when the Kansas City Chiefs were losers year in and year out, but lately, they’ve put themselves into the contender category every single season.
We might not have the Super Bowls to show for it yet, but Chiefs Kingdom has to be pretty happy about what their favorite football team has become over the last four years.
