The Kansas City Royals aren’t wowing anyone with their play over the first three weeks of the season. They currently sit at 7-14 and haven’t won a game in a week. Players could be getting traded off sooner than fans had wanted.

Woof. The first three weeks of the KC Royals season has not gone according to plan. The Royals were just swept by the Chicago White Sox in a three-game series on the road, and before that were swept in a four-game series against the Rangers. If you’re not keeping score, that means the Royals went 0-7 on that road trip. Yikes.

With the poor play of the Kansas City Royals so early into the season, the team could be seeing a fire sale with some of the fan favorites. Some might think this is too soon, but for the Royals, it could make sense.

Jim Bowden, previously of ESPN, wrote that the Royals should sell as soon as they can. He thinks Lorenzo Cain could be useful for the Giants, Mike Moustakas could be a fit for the Cardinals, Mets, and Red Sox, and nearly every contending team could use Jason Vargas. Bowden didn’t see any team really needing a first baseman yet so Eric Hosmer wasn’t linked with a team.

While the Royals could turn things around, they haven’t given their fans any hope in that department. Their offense has been horrendous, their bullpen isn’t good, and the starting pitching is slowly starting to come back down to Earth after some terrific starts.

More from Kansas City Royals

Kansas City is 0-6 against the American League Central and has just been getting pounded this past week. It’s one thing if the pitching staff is bad, but usually then the offense makes up for it with runs scored. The Royals aren’t doing that and are reminding all of us of truly being Raised Royal, as this year’s slogan suggests.

Fans could be disappointed if Dayton Moore and company decide to give in and sell off major players, but truthfully, it might be the right play here. I say give it another month at the least and if the offense still isn’t hitting and the team isn’t competitive, then why waste time? The rebuilding process might have to start over anyway, so the sooner, the better.

It’s better than holding onto the star players and not getting anything for them in return. The Royals will get quite a haul for Cain, Hosmer, Moustakas, and Vargas, and could also choose to move Kelvin Herrera as well, as the closer market is a big one when it comes to competing in the postseason.

Look, I’m disappointed as much as the rest of you about how this season has gone in just three weeks, but at what point do we stop telling ourselves it’s still early and accept that this is who the 2017 Kansas City Royals are. This might just be what has to happen. It could be time for “The Process” to begin again in Kansas City.
