BRODIE CROYLE

18 GAMES, 10 STARTS

One of the all-time worst players in KC Chiefs history is none other than Brodie Croyle. Croyle has been a longstanding inside joke with my family and I. Whenever a team needs a quarterback, one of us will say, “Maybe they’ll sign Brodie Croyle” and then all have a good laugh about it. It’s good to laugh away pain sometimes.

Croyle went winless in ten starts over the span of five years.

Croyle was just that: A pain. The third round pick out of Alabama in 2006 brought a whole new level of excitement to Kansas City. Fans were excited to see the team go after a quarterback early on, but the hype died pretty quickly once everyone actually saw Croyle play.

Croyle joined the Chiefs during the Trent Green era and was actually the reason Green was traded away, as then head coach Herm Edwards wanted a youth movement for the team. Croyle’s biggest problem, aside from being terrible, was that he couldn’t stay healthy. This led to Damon Huard seeing more starting time than needed and even Tyler Thigpen becoming the starter for 14 games in 2008. Sheesh.

Croyle went winless in ten starts over the span of five years. He appeared in eight other games, but never looked like the franchise guy the Chiefs wanted him to be and him not panning out put them in a really deep hole for several years.

Croyle’s final stats were 1,669 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and nine interceptions in five seasons. He was not good and remains the last drafted quarterback to start a game for this organization. That’s pretty sad, but at least my family and I have our jokes. What is life without laughter after all?
