The Kansas Jayhawks All-Time Team: Starting Five

SG: Paul Pierce

Paul Pierce is one of the best recruits that Roy Williams ever had. The Truth became one of the greatest players of KU Basketball since Danny Manning even though Pierce did not take the Jayhawks to a National Championship.

Over the course of his entire career, Pierce recorded an average of 16.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists, a 48.1 field goal percentage plus a 35.5 three point shooting percentage per SportsReference.

Pierce owned the court during his stint at KU. It was unfortunate that his team never got to a National Championship crown, but he eventually achieved greater things in his 2008 NBA season. Paul Pierce was still a reckoning force in the NBA, as he was back in college.

Right now, Pierce is getting to the point of his career where he will eventually retire, which will see an end to one of the greatest players of KU Basketball. If he could come back for one more season at KU there is no doubt in my mind that Pierce would not leave without a championship.

Pierce is one of those athletic guys that just takes over the course of a game. Even though he does not hold as many awards as Frank Mason or Danny Manning like they did during their college career, he definitely is as elite as those two.

Paul Pierce mostly showed how great he is when he took storm to the NBA, yet he was still a great college player and a Consensus All-American. Pierce would be a necessary and huge addition to a Jayhawk all-star team.
