2017 NFL Draft KC Chiefs Scouting Report: Jarrad Davis
The 2017 NFL Draft has tons of great defensive prospects that NFL teams will be eyeing in the first round. Will the KC Chiefs be a team to go defensively in round one? If so, Jarrad Davis out of Florida is a name to watch for.
When it comes to drafting early on, the Kansas City Chiefs have become a team that like to go for defensive players. Even when it appears that the Chiefs are set on defense, they like drafting for depth. Don’t be surprised if that’s the route that the Chiefs go with in the 2017 NFL Draft, and Jarrad Davis is a player they could be looking at.
Davis, a linebacker out of the University of Florida, would be a tremendous fit to this Kansas City defense. He spent four years with the Gators, racking up 201 tackles (20 for loss), nine defended passes, five and a half sacks, two forced fumbles, and an interception.
In my very first mock draft this season, I had the Chiefs selecting Jarrad Davis with their first round pick. This is what I wrote at the time of that mock draft,

"The best part about Davis is that he has versatility when it comes to playing inside linebacker and outside linebacker. This is exactly what the Chiefs need too because Derrick Johnson will be coming off his second ruptured Achilles, and the outside linebackers aren’t quite living up to the hype.More from KC KingdomWin $650 GUARANTEED Plus $100 Off NFL Sunday Ticket With Caesars, FanDuel and DraftKings Kansas Promos! This Plus-Money Bobby Witt Jr. Prop Bet is on Fire (Hit in 15/21 Games)! How to Bet on the Chiefs vs. Cardinals in NFL Preseason Week 2The Royals Need to Extend Bobby Witt Jr. ImmediatelyThe 3 Most Intriguing Games on the Chiefs’ Schedule"
I don’t really see Davis sliding all the way to the Chiefs in the first round, as they’re picking 27th, but if he’s there, Kansas City will strongly have to consider drafting him.
The biggest concern with Jarrad Davis, however, is that he seems to be injury prone. This past year he injured his leg in a game and missed four games as a result. He also missed an extended amount of time during the 2014 season.
Any time a young college player has injury history, it’s concerning for sure. It’s hard to stay healthy after getting injured time and time again and that’d be the biggest knock on Davis. Investing a first round pick on a guy who’s been banged up frequently throughout his college playing days might not be worth the risk for some teams.
Davis does appear to be worth the risk though. NFL.com notes that he’s praised for his character and is what a lot of NFL teams are looking for when it comes to prospects. If he can just stay healthy, Jarrad Davis could be one of the better players to come out of the 2017 NFL Draft.
